Alia & Ashton
This September, we met with legendary artists Alia Romagnoli and Ashton Attz. Photographer and visual artist Alia explores a variety of subjects in their work, ranging from narratives within the LGBTQIA+ community as well as South Asian stories both in and outside of the diaspora. Painter and illustrator Ashton’s work seeks to empower and bring joy to LGBTQ+ people and people of colour - with advocacy, visibility and unity at the forefront. Here, the power couple are shot by the incredible Bex Fahey exploring all things purple, violet & lavender. With creative direction from the wonderful Rachelle Cox these purple plants, which hold such importance and significance to lesbian and dyke history, are explored in various visual aspects of the editorial. From moulded flowers and beautiful set design from Kat Easto to stunning strokes of purple and dyed buzzcuts from Tina Khatri and Yaesmin Hassan.
