DIY-KE STYLE 101

DIY-KE STYLE 101

A WORKSHOP SERIES.

HACKNEY, 2024.

  • SUITS AND TIES

The first instalment in our 'DIY-KE Style 101' series is Workshop 1: Suit and Tie - an exploration of Suits & Ties as queer (style) culture. A safe space to explore gender-affirming style, sustainable and cost effect ways to add to your existing suit and tie attire and to meet, discuss plus connect with your local queer community.

Having taken place at The Hackney Showroom, the day began with a Tie customisation workshop from the incredible Bertie Brownhill. Followed by a panel talk moderated by the wonderful Yaz Senghor we discussed the Suit and Tie as a key element of dyke dress and gender-affirming style with the great Mx. Fortune and Sophie of Cotton Dandy. Additionally, a textile art installation and stall from the amazing Maria Mautino was not to be missed!

  • STYLE AS ACTIVISM

    STYLE AS ACTIVISM

Taking place again at The Hackney Showroom, the second collaboration between G(end)er Swap and Dyke Digital focuses on - Style as Activism. We discussed and looked into how style has played and continues to play a key role in queer activism while offering affordable and accessible ways to explore style and gender-affirming-dress within the frame of and for the purpose of - Activism.

The day began with a history seminar and badge customisation workshop from the incredible Emily Witham. Followed by a style symposium featuring the wonderful Roxy Murray, AKA The MS Fashionista, and Bvtch Boots. Roxy discussed her experience in fashion and style’s role in disability activism. Bvtch Boots conducted an informative session and live demo on restorative leatherwork and leather history.

A SPECIAL THANK YOU TO THE NATIONAL LOTTERY FUND FOR MAKING THIS PROJECT POSSIBLE.
